Abstract

Selection of specialization or who is often called in vocational majors at the start of class X. Junior High Graduates who choose to continue to vocational school, will be faced with several choices of specialization in vocational school. The package selection expertise on Building Engineering program including the Architecture Engineering (AE), Stone Concrete Construction Engineering (SCCE), Steel Construction Engineering and Construction Engineering Wood. The selection of expertise packages by prospective new students of Vocational High School has done early during the selection process for new students, so many students are less precise in determining the selection of expertise packages. It is influential to the academic achievement in school. It affects the academic performance at school and works readiness in the field. The aim of this research is to 1) know the student academic ability in the choice of specialization on a package of expertise AE and SCCE; 2) know internal factors as determinants of selection specialization on a package of expertise AE and SCCE for prospective new students; 3) to know the external factors as determinants of selection specialization on a package of expertise AE and SCCE for prospective students new; 4) know the determining factor in the selection of specialization AE and SCCE expertise packages to the acceptance of new students. This research includes quantitative descriptive. Techniques of data collection using questionnaires and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis by factor analysis. Based on the result of data analysis, it can be concluded as follows: 1) new students academic ability who choose Architecture Engineering (AE) and Stone Concrete Construction Engineering (SCCE) have good enough score, as one of considerations used for the selection and admission of new students in Vocational High School choice; 2) the internal factors as determinants in the choice specialization of AE and SCCE expertise package for new students is a factor of interest; 3) the external factors as determinants in the choice specialization of AE and SCCE expertise package for new students is a family environmental factors; 4) the determinant factor in the selection Architecture Engineering (AE) and Stone Concrete Construction Engineering (SCCE) package expertise is academic ability.
