Abstract

This study aims to see a description of the meaning of forgiveness in adolescents from broken home families who can achieve academic achievement and what forgiveness efforts are made by these teenagers. This qualitative research with a case study approach involves two participants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed by reflecting on important themes that underscore the experiences that emerged from the interviews. A total of seven major themes were successfully revealed including the individual’s relationship with parents, the impact of a broken home, inner wounds, the description of forgiveness, factors that affect forgiveness, the meaning of forgiveness for individuals, and factors that encourage individual achievement. Both participants have not been able to completely remove the inner wounds. Both participants have a good relationship with their parents but there is still a sense of disappointment in one of the parents who is considered by the participants to be the cause of the broken home in the family. Both participants did the forgiveness process for what had happened to themselves and their families.
