The 3rd International Conference of Art, Craft, Culture and Design or ICON ARCCADE 2023 is organized to keep up with the current discourses in our fields, as well as to put the Faculty of Art and Design ITB in the constellation among the best art and design schools in the world.

This year we have to admit that we went overboard with the theme, fluid and ubiquitous. We envisioned an art, craft, culture and design conference that would be stimulating with lively presentations and dynamic discussions. We wanted to know if we were ready to move along with the global current and respond to the time we are living in. Perhaps, in a naive way, we believed that these two characteristics of art, craft and design, fluid and ubiquitous, are what is significant for us to facilitate changes everywhere through their capability to connect humans, nature, and everything in between.

Through the theme elaboration into five sub-themes, which are care, systemic design, cross-cultural identity, object as agency, and transmateriality, we called for papers from academics and practitioners. We received 120 paper submissions that have gone through rigorous double-blinded peer review and accepted 50 papers from over six countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China, Australia, and Indonesia. We are most excited with the keynote speakers we were able to invite to share knowledge during the plenary sessions. Each of them gave an interesting perspective on the recent discourse on art, craft, culture, and design. Dr. Venka Purushotaman (LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore), Dr. Mariana Amatullo (Parsons School of Design, USA), Akira Matsuda, Ph.D. (University of Tokyo, Japan), and Prof. Dr. Yasraf Amir Piliang, M.A. (Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia), we appreciate your time and kind contribution during the conference.

All in all, we hope that the ideas and thoughts from the conference have constructive contributions to the development of art, design, craft, and humanities disciplines.

Warm regards,
Prananda Malasan
