Abstract

The high crime rate in a community result from the low amount of private property. It compels any person, regardless of gender, age, or other factors, to commit a crime to maintain a decent standard of living. Moreover, they could all be considered criminals. This research study aims to understand what economic factors affect the crime rate in the former Semarang residency for 2018–2021. Finding the outcomes in this quantitative study involves using pooled data regression analysis. The result of this research is that in selecting the best model, the model chosen is the Random Effect Model (REM). These results suggest that poverty, the human development index, and population density positively and significantly impact crime rates in the former Semarang Residency. Education and the open unemployment rate have a negative and significant impact on crime rates among former Semarang residents. The coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.945095, meaning that 94.50% of the variance of the crime rate variable is explained through the variables of education, poverty, the Human Development Index, population density, and the Open Unemployment Rate. Meanwhile, the rest, 5.5%, is influenced by independent variables outside the model.
