Proceedings of the 2016 International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education

The 1st International Conference of Mathematics and Science Education (ICMSEd 2016) was held on the campus of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) in collaboration with Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tuanku Bainun (Malaysia), and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Bandung – Indonesia on April 30th, 2016. The 141 participants came from collaborators’ countries with a variety of backgrounds such as teachers, students, educators, and policy makers, had many fruitful discussions and exchanged research findings and ideas that contributed to the success of the conference. All together there have been 54 contributed papers included in the proceedings. Thank you to all those who have contributed to produce such a comprehensive ICMSEd 2016 conference and proceedings and thus contributed to the improvement of the teaching and learning in mathematics and science education.

It has been an honour for me to have the chance to edit the proceedings. I have enjoyed considerably working in cooperation with the international programming committee to call for papers, review papers and finalise papers to be included in the proceedings. A total of 88 papers were reviewed for ICMSEd by double blind internal and external reviewers. The reviewers represent different countries, which serves to bring a broad set of perspective to the research area. Of these papers, 63% were designated as having been accepted by the review process and designated as ‘refereed’ in the proceedings. I would like to thank all these reviewers for their time and effort in reviewing the papers. Without this commitment it would not be possible to have the important ‘referee’ status assigned to papers in the proceedings. The quality of these papers is a tribute to the authors and also to the reviewers who have guided any necessary improvement.

All in all, the 1st ICMSEd joint conference in Bandung was successful. Given the rapidity with which science is advancing in all of the areas covered by ICMSEd we expect that these future ICMSEd conferences will be as stimulating as this most recent one was, as indicated by the contributions presented in this proceedings volume.
