Abstract

The study examines the utilization of climate-smart technologies among poultry farmers in Kogi State, Nigeria. Three-stage sampling technique was used to select one hundred and eighty-seven (187) poultry farmers. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Information was garnered on climate-smart technologies used by poultry farmers, the level of utilization of climate-smart technologies among poultry farmers, and constraints to the utilization of climate-smart technologies. Data collected were analysed using frequency percentages, mean and simple bar chart. Findings showed that bio-security measures (100%), vaccination (95.2%) and regular monitoring to prevent disease infestation (88.2%) were the most climate-smart technologies used by poultry farmers. Also, 53.5% and 24.5% of farmers had medium and high level of utilization of climate-smart technologies. The most severe constraints to the utilization of climate-smart technologies among poultry farmers were inadequate funding ( X ¯ =2.46), pest and disease infestation ( X ¯ =2.24), and inadequate training on climate smart technologies ( X ¯ =2.15). It is recommended that poultry farmers should diversify into other viable enterprises in order to attract more funds. Also, preventive measure like bio-security should be intensified to curd pest and diseases infestation.
