Abstract

Closed curve is proved to be a topological structure of pictographic characters in topological language and also proved to be the essence and constant factor in the evolution of shape and structure of Chinese characters by some examples in this paper. Therefore, as the invariant in the evolution of shapes and structures of pictographic characters, closed curve should come down and can be used in font or graphic design.
