This year’s International Conference on Education, Humanities, and Social Science (ICEHoS) 2023 has the theme “The Role of the School Literacy Movement in the Development of Education in the Digital Era”. Several Ministry of Education and Culture policies currently prioritize literacy and numeracy as central issues for all levels of education. Since 2021, the National Examination has been changed to a Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) and Character Survey. This national AKM survey includes literacy and numeracy whose function is not to select students to move up to the next level but to improve the quality of learning. The Numeracy Minimum Competency Assessment discusses four contents including numbers, geometry, measurement, and data. Ladies and gentlemen,
Literacy assessment is an assessment to measure competence in reading, processing, and evaluating information. Apart from that, two types of texts are used in literacy assessments, namely literary texts which aim to invite students to enjoy stories and reflect on life problems in the text and informational texts which aim to invite students to broaden their insight based on factual data and true events, really happens in life. Regarding literacy assessment, for example, assessment in science learning is still partial and doesn’t touch the three aspects of science, namely as a product, science as a process, and science as a scientific attitude. So the results of the scientific literacy assessment are still low and do not provide satisfactory results. The PISA assessment is in line with the assessment of science, namely based on three aspects, including the knowledge of science, the investigative nature of science, and science as a way of thinking. Through the international conference held today, it is hoped that it can increase discussions and scientific studies related to literacy, be it reading and writing literacy, numeracy literacy, scientific literacy, digital literacy, financial literacy, cultural literacy, and citizenship.
