- Abstract
This study aims to examine the strengthening of the application of medical ethics as a basis for providing legal protection for patients in hospitals. Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health serves as the main basis for strengthening the legal position of hospitals in implementing medical ethics to ensure legal protection for patients. The type of research used is normative legal research, utilizing secondary data sourced from laws and regulations, literature reviews, library research, and other supporting documents.
Research findings indicate that medical ethics plays a central role in establishing ethical standards, clinical procedures, and maintaining patient safety. However, its implementation in the field still faces several obstacles, including a lack of understanding among healthcare workers, limited facilities and resources, complex organizational structures, resistance to change, and weak oversight systems. Various cases of medical errors, such as errors in medical procedures due to inadequate competence or substandard surgical practices, demonstrate the importance of improving training, coordination, and consistency in the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
In conclusion, the realization of legal protection for patients in hospitals requires strengthening the function and effectiveness of medical committees, accompanied by increasing the active involvement of patients and their families in the process of medical services and care.
