- Abstract
The article from the methodological point of view analyzes the evolution of the views of historians and philosophers on the relationship of history as a science to fiction from antiquity to the present. Particular attention is paid to the influence of postmodernism on modern historiography. In the interpretation of postmodernists, the line that separates the historical narrative from the artistic one is essentially erased. Nevertheless, at the same time, according to the authors, the postmodern challenge in a new way highlighted the complex nature of the interaction between the source and the researcher; it increased the requirements for the content and language of the scientific historical text.
