- Abstract
Note-taking is essential to consecutive interpreting as a means to support interpreters’ memory of the source information. The present study aimed to probe into the effect of the optimized model of the mobile ICT-based mini program on student interpreters’ note-taking competence for consecutive interpreting. An experiment was carried out among 70 students in two classes, with the experimental group and the control group performing the 21-day task of posting their daily note-taking exercise records on the mini program Xiaodaka with the optimized model and the default conventional model respectively. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected, analyzed and discussed by means of questionnaires, SPSS and interviews. The results showed that the optimized model, compared with the conventional one, better facilitated the student interpreters’ construction of a note-taking system, and mastery of some note-taking tactics. Pedagogical implications were discussed from the perspectives of assignment design and material selection.
