Proceedings of the 2015 International Forum on Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all participants of the 2015 International Forum on Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering (BME 2015) organized by Qingdao University and Qingdao Science Culture Communication Co., Ltd. I would also like to congratulate the committee members form Qingdao University for taking up the challenge of hosting this event. The 2015 International Forum on Bioinformatics and Medical Engineering (BME 2015) will be held from September 4-5, 2015 in Qingdao, China. The primary goal of the conference is to promote research and developmental activities in Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering. Another goal is to promote scientific information interchange between researchers, developers, engineers, students, and practitioners working in China and abroad. The conference will be held every year to make it an ideal platform for people to share views and experiences in Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering and related areas.

Biomedical engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes (e.g. diagnostic or therapeutic). This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine: It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to advance health care treatment, including diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. Biomedical engineering has only recently emerged as its own study, compared to many other engineering fields. Such an evolution is common as a new field transitions from being an interdisciplinary specialization among already-established fields, to being considered a field in itself. Much of the work in biomedical engineering consists of research and development, spanning a broad array of subfields.

We would like to thank the program chairs, organization staff and the members of the program committees for their work. Thanks also go to all those who have contributed to the success of BME 2015. Hopefully, all participants and other interested readers benefit scientifically from the proceedings and also find it stimulation in the process.

We hope all of you have a unique, rewarding and enjoyable week at BME 2015 in Qingdao.

With our warmest regards,
The BME 2015 Editors
