- Abstract
Phytoene Synthase (PSY) is an important enzyme in carotenoid biosynthesis. Here, the Solanum tuberosum PSY2 (StPSY2) gene sequences were obtained from Spud DB database, and preformed for sequence analysis. The StPSY2 gene mapped to chromosomes 2, and contains an open reading frame of 1,317 bp that encodes a 438-amino acid protein with a calculated molecular mass of 49.42 kD and an isoelectric point (pI) of 8.76. Subcellular localization predicted the StPSY2 gene was in the chloroplast. The conserved domain of the StPSY2 protein is PLN02632. The StPSY2 protein is most closely related to Solanum lycopersicum. The findings of the present study provide a molecular basis for the elucidation of PSY2 gene function in potato.
