Proceedings of the Achieving and Sustaining SDGs 2018 Conference: Harnessing the Power of Frontier Technology to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (ASSDG 2018)

The Achieving and Sustaining SDGs Conference 2018 was held for the first time at 18 October 2018 in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The theme for this first conference was “Harnessing the Power of Frontier Technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, and was attended by around 90 participants consisting of policy makers, government officials, academicians, and practitioners, and around 79 papers were presented. The conference was hosted by Faculty of Economic and Business Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) in collaboration with SDGs Center UNPAD and co-hosted by The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Center for Sustainability, and HIV/AIDS Priority Setting Involving Stakeholder Using Multiple Criteria (PRISMA HIV).

The papers presented revolve around the use of digital technologies as geared and optimized toward achieving SDGs. With its unlimited potential, its use within the frame of achieving SDGs is still limited, more specifically in developing countries. For instance, how far digital technologies can be used to overcome poverty, to provide solutions to the equality of education and health, and to provide solution to the gender issues?

Of the papers submitted for proceeding, the scientific committee have chosen the following papers to be further shared to wider audience as it contains various case studies, methods, and proposed ideas for further studies. At least two members of scientific committee were assigned to review the submitted abstract, and a further review by at least one scientific committee or one editor were conducted for the papers submitted for proceeding. We would like to express our special gratitude to UNDP for supporting the publication of this proceeding.

We hope this collection of papers will further enlighten readers to the potential of digital technology in achieving SDGs. More importantly, we hope this proceeding will inspire readers to apply this concept in a wider context not just in Indonesia, but also at the global level.
