Abstract

News reporting involves many uses of figures of speech, of which metaphor is used widely. Through the use of metaphor, news reports will be more vivid and thus more attractive to the audience. Besides, the application of metaphor in news reports can have an impact on the audience’s cognition. Using news reports about EU (European Union) economic crisis as a case study, this paper makes an analysis of the use of metaphor and elaborates on its functions in news reports.
